     Ams Osram, a leading global provider of optical solutions, announced the release of the TMF8806 single-zone Direct Time of Flight (dToF) sensor, which provides obstacle detection and collision avoidance solutions for domestic and industrial robots.

     The new sensors further expand AMS OSRAM's dToF product line. The series has been widely adopted by more than 50 flagship smartphones, autonomous appliances and smart home devices, demonstrating superior performance and greater versatility. The new TMF8806 features an ultra-low power design that completely shuts down during measurement gaps and comes with pre-installed firmware for quick startup, ensuring immediate response to events. In addition, the enhanced ranging capability of 1cm to 5m and compatible I/O interfaces of 1.2V and 1.8V/3.3V inject the speed and accuracy of dToF sensing technology into applications such as home appliances, mobile robots, camera autofocus, building automation, inventory management systems, security systems, and virtual barriers.

     TMF8806 uses market-proven dToF technology to accurately measure the sending and receiving times of ultra-short optical pulses to obtain precise distances. The technology is not only accurate in measurement and low power consumption, but also responds quickly to ensure high resolution and high accuracy. The built-in statistical processing function of the sensor can effectively eliminate the reflection interference and ensure the stability of the measurement accuracy. In addition, the product has a 24° field of view Angle, an operating temperature range of -40 ° C to 85 ° C, and a small size of only 3.6mm x 2.2mm x 1.0mm, which can be easily integrated into space-limited application scenarios.

     The TMF8806 enhances single-area detection, extending the detection range from 1cm to 2.5m in standard mode and up to 5m in remote mode. The product is compatible with a wide range of cover glass thicknesses and can flexibly adjust the sensor and cover glass spacing for custom optical stacking. In addition, the TMF8806 is excellent in terms of energy savings, with current as low as 0.26µA in ultra-low power off mode.

     Easy-to-use tools help developers reduce burdens and increase efficiency. Ams OSram offers supporting hardware including the TMF8806-Shield board, the Arduino® Uno R3 platform for rapid evaluation, and a small sensor separation board for easy integration into custom hardware. Plug-and-play modules free of firmware download, enabling developers to immediately start new projects. In addition, AMS Osram provides a universal GUI to create a comprehensive visual control interface for the TMF8806, with sample Python scripts for recording and calibration.
