With the introduction of the ADP5041 and ADP5040 multioutput regulators, Analog Devices continues to help industrial, medical and communications device designers improve power system performance by reducing board space. These regulators integrate A high efficiency, 3 MHz, 1.2 A buck regulator and two 300 mA Ldos (Low pressure difference regulators) in a 20-pin LFCSP compact package to meet the industry's demand for higher power density.

     With the introduction of the ADP5041 and ADP5040 multioutput regulators, Analog Devices continues to help industrial, medical and communications device designers improve power system performance by reducing board space. These regulators integrate A high efficiency, 3 MHz, 1.2 A buck regulator and two 300 mA Ldos (Low pressure difference regulators) in a 20-pin LFCSP compact package to meet the industry's demand for higher power density. Unlike discrete power solutions that use up to 14 devices and 126 mm2 of board area, these regulators offer highly integrated circuit solutions that require only 9 devices and 50 mm2 of board area, while improving performance and reliability and reducing system costs.

     The ADP5041 and ADP5040 are ideal power management packages for mid-range FPGA, microprocessor, and DSP systems that require core, IO, and memory voltages. The ADP5041 regulator has an integrated watchdog timer on the chip that monitors the integrity of code execution in the processor system and resets the processor if it fails to gate within a preset timeout period, thus achieving greater reliability. The ADP5041 also features a high-precision (±1.5% over the entire temperature range) reset generator, which can be externally programmed to monitor the low-voltage power rail. It also offers extensive ordering options to meet multiple reset and watchdog timing requirements.

     The ADP5041 has a special circuit that detects three-state conditions imposed by the watchdog refresh input on the WDI pin, which is usually controlled by the processor /DSP output port. When the processor sets this port to three-state mode, the watchdog refresh timer is disabled to prevent the watchdog from resetting the processor. This feature is important when the device supports processor /DSP sleep working mode, when the kernel is disabled and the watchdog timer cannot be refreshed.

     The ADP5041 and ADP5040 multichannel output regulators utilize high-efficiency switching regulators to reduce heat generation and step-down power supply efficiencies of up to 96%. For low-noise analog circuit applications, the LDO can maintain power rejection performance of more than 60 dB at frequencies up to 10 kHz, while the required voltage margin is very low.

     The ADP5041 and ADP5040 also offer a three-way system power supply (a 1.2A step-down regulator and two 300 mA Ldos) with adjustable output voltages that can be easily set using an external resistance divider network. With switching frequencies up to 3 MHz, step-down regulators support the use of small ceramic inductors, further reducing the size and cost of the solution. These features allow the ADP5041 and ADP5040 to be easily and quickly adapted for a variety of applications with short design cycles, such as portable medical and industrial equipment.
