Lattice and HELION launch 3D cameras based on LatticeECP3 FPgas

     Lattice Semiconductor, at the Embedded World Show in Nuremberg, Germany, presented a LatticeECP3 FPGA-based camera that supports dual sensors and 3D video viewing using Active Shutter 3D glasses.

     The 3D demo board was developed using Lattice HDR-60 camera development Kit with a low-cost, low-power LatticeECP3 FPGA, and the Lattice  dual-sensor front board uses Lattice MachXO2™ PLD and 3D ISP (Image Signal Processing) IP provided by Lattice partner Helion. The dual image sensor design combines two Aptina MT9M024/MT9M034 720P image sensors to integrate images into a single bus for transmission. The demo board uses a standard 3D display to view 3D video through active shutter 3D glasses, the same glasses used to view a regular home 3D TV.

    "Our advanced ISP IP can technically enable depth adjustment of 3D images in both positive and negative directions, so 3D images can be displayed" inside "or" outside "of the display; For example, between the display and the viewer, "says Dr. Arndt Bussmann, Helion's chief Technology Officer," the ISP also supports 3D image and text overlays, which can be placed anywhere within the video area of variable depth." Support for a variety of sensors, including global shutter and rolling shutter sensors."

     The combination of 3D image processing hardware and IP has many applications, including automotive, security monitoring, medical, infotainment and game consoles.
